WWCD Mentorship Programs: Week 4

Image
With week 2 and week 3 focused upon exploring various scholarships and internship opportunities and applying for them, week 4 was aimed at exploring the open source. This week I worked upon learning about what exactly is the concept of open source and FOSS. I gathered information regarding various events and programs initiated by various companies and organisations to encourage people contribute in the open source. I came to know about events like Hacktoberfest for beginners in open source from my mentor. Apart from that she helped me in exploring features like pull requests, branching and forking. It was nice to have my doubts resolved about various things. Here’s a listing of things I learned this week-           What is open source? Open source is basically refers to something people can modify and share because its design is publicly accessible. It revolves around the concept of freely sharing technical information so that it may be improved by people...

WWCD Mentorship Program: Week 2&3

Image
With a mind ‘blogging’ first week at the Women Who Code Delhi Mentorship program, it is time for week 2 and 3 updates. The second week was focussed on exploring various internship opportunities for ourselves. Internship holds importance with providing the student with a practical learning and industrial experience. They give us our first job, our first impression of the industry, and our first earnings. Women Who Code Delhi Mentorship Program: Week 1

Image
On 17th January 2019, I got a mail from Delhi chapter of Women Who Code stating that I had been selected as one of the mentees for the Mentorship Program launched by them. I was excited to know about it as this was the first time I had applied for something like this and yet another first time when I was going to be a part of a community. The program started on 20th January 2019 and we were introduced to our mentors for the program via emails. My mentor was Stuti ma’am who is currently working as a Software Engineer at Incedo and is also the city Director at WHC-Delhi. I am excited to work with her to learn something substantial in the upcoming weeks. Later, we were all connected to a common Telegram group where we could communicate and resolve our doubts with our mentors and fellow mates. It was good to see around 40 girls coming up together to learn and create an impact. Later in the week, everyone had a one-to-one call with their mentors. My initial call schedule couldn’t be fol...
